"To go toe-to-toe with modern retail, vendors must prioritize hygiene and quality," he noted, framing the upgrades as an essential step for the survival of the traditional market ecosystem.
He urged the Jakarta government to offer low-interest financing, subsidies, and incentive schemes to ensure business continuity for vendors. He specifically highlighted those impacted by market construction and those transitioning to digital payment systems.
“This financial support must be paired with training in financial management, digital marketing, and legal aid for small-scale vendors. This ensures that revitalization truly translates into improved welfare for the merchants," he stated.
